I was messaging someone on Deviantart earlier. We've been talking about flights and stuff. He's also in a long distance relationship. He lives in Ireland and his girlfriend is studying in America.
We've both had our share of problems with flights and things, and we were talking about them, got me thinking about last december again, and how helpful those people actually were. I'll probably never see them again, but I don't think I'll ever forget them.
I can actually remember that day, SO well. I remember the night before, too. so weird, so different, so new!
I had never flown before, and here I was, the night before I was due to leave the UK by air for the FIRST time, and suddenly I was told that plans had been jiggled about and nothing was a certainty anymore. I didn't sleep properly, but I went too far ahead already.
December 13th 2008
I still don't have anything to pack anything in! ARGH! No need to worry. Dad went off to work (working the weekend to help the company), I eventually got up, and then me and mum went into Croydon to get some stuff, mostly my cases. Ended up having to go to a few different places before we could find what we wanted. It was raining, and I mean, RAINING! In the UK, if it rains in December? It REALLY rains... usually... anyway. At the same time I bought myself some new pajama's, expecting to wear them while I was away, I ended up sleeping in whatever I was wearing the day before though =P. Anyway, we got the KFC we were going to have for lunch, took it home, my dad got home about five minutes after us, which was good. We ate, then all three of us left my sister at home and went back (in my dads case) to work. While there, my sister phoned to tell me that 'your present for Mike arrived' Such relief, but wait 'is it damaged? is it wet?' 'only the corners' So me and mum asked her to put it on the freezer door to dry =). It was a picture I'd commisioned for Mike, it arrived the day before I was due to leave, that was just plain awesome.
Finished work, we don't usually work weekends, but at least I was getting paid for it, and headed home. Upon arrival, I stood and stared in awe at the picture on the freezer door, I was in love =P it was that good, still is, far as I know. I can't remember what I had to eat for dinner, if anything, I remember spending a while running up and down stairs to get everything ready to be packed! I wasn't panicking, I don't panic about those things, I was excited... excited, scared, and sad. I was excited to be finally meeting Mike, flying for the first time, going on my own adventure. scared because it's a big world, big sky, big sea, and I'm only four foot eleven! Sad, because, well, I was going to be away from my family for Christmas. We've always had such a close knit family spirit, I knew I was going to miss that. But nonetheless, half way through packing, my mum produced two wrapped packages for me, saying I could take them with me, or open them then and there. I opened them then and there. Another Code, and a DS games case, two awesome gifts to be given =) took them both with me, of course. That actually caused some quick rethinking of packing methods.
Packing finished I went in search of my old mobile phones, I wanted my second phone to take with me because, well, my 3rd one was a bit low on battery life and I'd already packed the charger, or something, I'm not sure what the reasoning was behind that now, actually. I think I had a bath, I can't remember though XD funny that. Anyway, retired to my room, only to be told that stuff had happened and nothing was certain. Well, one thing was certain, I was getting on a plane the next morning that was going to fly me all the way over the Atlantic ocean XD.
I didn't sleep properly, woke up after just under an hour and was still awake an hour after I left my laptop, I know this because at the time the screen turned itself off after an hour and I was awake when it went off.

I got up! yes! I got up. Clearly didn't have time for breakfast, hardly ever do =P. Packed my laptop up, packed Henry (my well loved stuffed toy leopard) into my carry on case, and bundled into the car... of course, I forgot an iPod! ARGH! luckily I realised just as my dad pulled away and he was nice enough to go back around, repark, and let me go back to the house and grab it =). I took one last look around my (at the time very untidy) room, and left again. On the way to the airport my parents decided to give me some money for food, since I really WAS hungry. They also bought me some dollars. I was so new to the whole checking in thing that I was scared of everyone, but I did it! A small 18 year old, checking in for the first time! It was a sight, I bet =P. Said goodbye, yes, I almost cried while I was saying goodbye to my mum. We're really much closer than I thought. But I digressed. I then proceeded to sit in the departure lounge for what seemed like forever. Eventually the screens showed which terminal to go to so I made my way there. Last chance to talk to mum, I didn't take it, I was too interested in concentrating on what was going on XD. Before this, I did LOOK for something to eat, but couldn't find anything I fancied at that time in the morning so I just went hungry.
Once on the plane I sat there thinking 'OMG OMG OMG OMG, I'm on a plane... I'm actually ON a PLANE!'. Did I forget to mention I had a cold? Yes, I did, I had a cold, thanks to my sister brining it home from whatever she spent her days doing.
Err... fast forward, the flight was sorta boring, played on my DS, tried to read, tried to sleep, wrote a journal on the back of my information sheets (I later regretted this). I spent most of the flight playing Sudoku though, really.
This is where the fun begins, really.
But I don't fancy typing anymore. T_T
